The crude torch is the only tool in the game that can you spawn with. It is a somewhat good source of light for exploring caves, but not as good as the cloth torch.

The crude torch is provided to anyone who joins the game, however once you die, there is a chance, that you will not receive another like you would if it was in the starter pack, so you must craft another one.
